SCCS to Tackle Parental Substance Abuse

Thrilled to hear that the Summit County Childrens Services has been awarded a $2.5 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to conduct a five-year study to identify parents with substance-abuse problems and improve services to them with the aim to stabilize troubled families and *not* remove the children from the homes. I can't begin to tell you how excited I am to hear of this bold new progressive effort.

TRAINING: "The Hard Stuff" NEORTC - Summit County Childrens Services

Going back to Summit County Childrens Services and the NEORTC to train my curriculum for "The Hard Stuff: Heroin, Crack & Meth" on Thursday, January 17, 2013. Pleased to be able to bring this information and curriculum to the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program. So grateful to have been asked to come back again to this excellent training facility. I feel it is so important for Child Welfare Workers to understand addiction as a neurological disorder instead of a moral failing and understand some approaches that can help the caregivers engage and make changes to preserve their family unit so everyone gets the win-win outcome.
